What are you drinking?

What is the source?
Think on that............
Do you derive your identity from it?
Is it a person you have a relationship with?
Is it an addiction like drugs, alcohol, smoking, pornography or sex?
Is it money or material things?
The struggle of overeating is real for many.
Maybe it's your talent or your job?
You might be a people pleaser or a performer?
Think on these sources mentioned above and examine yourself.....
Does it make you feel clean and refreshed or does it leave you feeling dirty and exhausted?
Is your source life-giving or is it life-taking?
Is your source the Living Water or is it a broken cistern?

Why do we drink from broken cisterns when we have free access to the healing Water of Life?
What is wrong with us that we settle for impure, dissatisfying sources?
Why do we drink form sources that keep us in bondage to our habits of hopelessness?
We should seek nothing less than the crisp, clear, refreshing, soul-satisfying water from above.
There our thirst is quenched as it flows inside us, renewing our lives and easing our pain.
It is only when we access this true source of life that we begin to rest and feel refreshed.

Drinking water from broken cisterns never satisfies.
It is a deception and a foolish game.
It leaves us wanting for more.
Maybe for a moment our thirst is quenched but it will leave our palates seeking more.
A broken cistern masquerades as an alluring oasis.
It appears fulfilling and draws us in with its lies and false promises.
Fools run in and succumb to its trickery.
Am I a fool? Are you a fool?
I must confess I have been. How about you?

I see Jesus, the Living Water, standing before a thirsty soul with His arms open wide.
He speaks clearly and softly, "Come to me and thirst no more."
Our palates long to be satisfied.
Our hearts and souls yearn for the One who patiently waits for us to harken His call.
Only the free-flowing River of Life fulfills us.
It is our only Source of healing, peace, joy, hope and love.

Drink from the One who will satisfy all your needs....The Living Water, Jesus Christ.
When you drink from Him, rivers of living waters will flow from within you.
You cannot give to others without Christ's life-giving water flowing in and through you.
Refuse the emptiness of broken cisterns that are leaking and leaving you wanting for more.
Run to the Source like your life depends on it -- because it does, dear one.
Bathe under the waterfall of the true Source of life and you will never thirst again.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you that you satisfy our thirsts with Your everlasting Water of Life.
Help us to drink from your cup so that we may pour life-giving water onto others in our lives.
Convict us when we are tempted to draw from the water from counterfeit sources.
They can never make us come alive in the way only You can.
We, as Children of God, belong to You.
We desire to drink from You.
Let Your life-giving, life-renewing, life-refreshing waters rush over us, Lord...and make us new.

Scripture:

Jeremiah 2:13 "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water."

John 4:10 (Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman) "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."

John 4:14 "But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again."

John 7:37-39 "Let anyone who is thirsty come after me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water (the Holy Spirit) will flow from within them."
